Two of William and Pleasant’s sons, James and John, served in Company E of the Mormon Battalion, and this year’s reunion will feature presentations about their time in the battalion, as well as about the lives of James and John Cazier. Another presentation will focus on where the Caziers lived in Salt Lake City before being sent to Salt Creek (Nephi) and other locations.

We’re proud of our pioneer ancestors and the fact that the Cazier Ancestral Family Organization hasn’t missed an annual reunion since 1950. Please mark your calendars for this year’s events. We’ll be sending more details later.

Final Details for the 2018 Reunion

Don’t miss the activities that the Cazier Ancestral Family Organization has planned for this year’s reunion in Salt Lake City on Friday and Saturday, June 29-30.

We’ll start off the reunion by getting together at 7 p.m. Friday evening, June 29 to visit and reminisce at Grant Stake Park located at 3403 South 1100 East in the Millcreek area. It’s a great park, with a playground, softball area, volleyball area, and pavilion. It is just across the street, east, of the Millstream Ridgedale church building. The entry to the park is enclosed by a rod iron fence and gate.

In the event of inclement weather, we will meet inside the church building. We’ll have potluck snacks, so please bring a favorite snack to share.

Our activities on Saturday will begin at 9 a.m. in the Millstream Ridgedale building, across the street from that same park at 3403 South 1100 East. We’ll start by showing a 30-minute film about the Mormon Battalion, which included two of our Cazier ancestors, brothers James and John, who served in Company E. This year’s reunion will focus on the Mormon Battalion and the lives of James and John.

Claire Averett will then give a presentation about James, the oldest son of William and Pleasant Drake Cazier. That will be followed by a presentation by Bob Cazier about his great-grandfather, John.

We’ll then have a financial report and a discussion about next year’s CAFO reunion, which will be held in Star Valley, Wyoming.

We’ll have lunch at the stake center at a cost of $10 for those age 12 and over. Children under 12 will eat for free. Children are encouraged to participate in skits about the Mormon Battalion during our lunch break.

After lunch, we’ll caravan for a tour of the route that William Cazier’s family took upon entering the Salt Lake Valley, starting at the top of Emigration Canyon, with stops at This Is the Place Heritage Park and Pioneer Park, and the location where Benjamin lived. Family members will then be free to visit the Church History Museum and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum, as well as Temple Square and other sites.

If you are coming to the reunion, please register on our website: www.cazier.org/reunions.

For anyone unable to attend the reunion, you can watch the Saturday morning presentations live from 9 am, or after-the-fact on our family Facebook group: “Cazier Ancestral Family Organization”, using the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1240878892633537/

Please bring or send names, e-mail addresses, Facebook names, etc. for others in your family, to give the secretary, Marilyn. Let’s keep communication going through the generations of Caziers!

Recommended donations are still $10 per person, $20 for a family. Of course we’re always happy to accept additional donations if that fits into your budget.

Best Wishes,

Officers of the Cazier Ancestral Family Organization
